This week we discussed the causes of the Civil War. We watched the Civil War journal episode about John Brown and had a class discussion on the "success" or failure of John Brown's Raid.
When I was a kid I was fascinated by John Brown. My family regularly visited Harper's Ferry, and when I was about 8 or 9 I went into the John Brown Wax Museum in Harper's Ferry. The wax museum is a tour of Brown's life recreated in full scale wax figures. The most poignant portion of the museum is the last diorama in which Brown climbs the gallows after his trial. The glowing eyes of Brown's wax head were permanently embedded in my 8 year old memory, and have been for more than 20 years. http://johnbrownwaxmuseum.com/

For homework, by Tuesday - Read Chapter 1 (Tocsin of War) in Hardtack and Coffee. Complete the questions for the chapter.
